ROMANCE READERS NOTE - This title is an erotic horror. If you don't like scary, this one's not for you!
Bryerly Keats just wants a fresh start. Instead she discovers a group of men who prey on women, devouring them to gain powers and immortality. When the men set their sights on Bry, she’s rescued by Verum the Truth Keeper, an ancient being who sees all, knows all and bears the ugly truths of the world on his broad, lonely shoulders. He’s willing to rescue Bry if she’s willing to pay a price—not just hours of mind-blowing, orgasmic bliss but a lifetime of sharing his burdens. Including the ability to read minds and see the past.
In a town where men do horrible, unspeakable things, being able to hear the darkness of their thoughts is more curse than gift but Bry is willing to do anything if it means ending the carnage…and staying with Verum forever.
Reader Advisory: Sinful Truth is a supernatural slasher romance with lots of hot sex and a hero who’s to die for—literally. If you’re squeamish or object to a nipple clamp or two, you might need a fainting couch for this one.
Sinful Truth is a fantastically creepy mix of the horrific and erotic. Bryerly Keats attempts to escape her abusive boyfriend, but can't ignore her conscience when she hears the cries of a woman in the woods -- and she stumbles onto a group of men torturing women for unknown, nefarious purposes. Fortunately, she also has the help of Verum, a tall, dark, sexy man with powers and responsibilities beyond her imagining.
I read this one straight through, drawn in by the mystery of what horrors were happening in Bryerly's town. Bry was a great heroine, haunted but strong, and I was impressed by how much character growth Regina Cole was able to pack into a short novella, without it feeling forced. Verum was a sexy, intriguing hero, and the sex was ridiculously hot. I loved the mythology that underpinned the story as well, but I won't say more about it -- much more fun to discover it as you read.
I'd highly recommend this one to any reader who likes a bit of horror with their sex and romance. It's not for the squeamish, as there are a few creepy scenes that Cole burns into your brain. But definitely worth it if you're a fan of erotic horror, as I am.
